Kaveri Seeds cold storage, Gouraram — built by Cold Care Services.
Seed is not stored, it is kept alive
Seed has to germinate next season. That makes moisture, not temperature, the thing that decides whether the store has done its job — and holding 45 to 50 per cent relative humidity through a Telangana summer is an engineering problem, not a refrigeration one.
The building is rack-supported: the racking carries the insulated envelope, which gets you density and speed together. Two-tonne jumbo bags are handled on that racking, which sets the aisle widths, the deck loads and the material handling long before anything is built.
Why it mattered
At the time it was among the largest dehumidified rack cold storages in India, and it remains the project we are asked about most by seed companies. Eleven seasons later it is still running.
